Tyler Bingham is a graduate of the Computer Information Systems program class of 2016! Since graduating from Tri-County, he has gone on to receive three degrees: Bachelor of Arts in English from Niagara University (’20) where he graduated Summa Cum Laude, a Master of Letters in Interdisciplinary with Distinction from the University of Strathclyde (’21), and a Master of Science in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from Canisius University (’23). He is the Assistant Director for Recruitment and Advisement at the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPPS). He is also an adjunct lecturer at the university level, teaching English 110 at Niagara University.
His favorite memory from TC was his participation in the CyberPatriot competitions. It stands out because he remembers having fun spending time with friends who also participated and feeling honored to have the opportunity to represent the school among some of the most talented students in the state. Tyler says it was also tremendously impactful in that he wasn’t as successful as he would’ve liked to be, and he remembers that being motivation to continue to work hard as a student. It was valuable to learn that even if you’re passionate about something, you’re not always going to succeed and that’s a normal and healthy part of your growth and development as a person. Tyler believes that Tri-County better prepared him for college and the world of work than any other place could have. Even beyond the practical experience of co-op, the vocational school calendar taught the values of time management, project management, and self-advocacy. Whether it was managing homework during shop week, or speaking up to take advantage of opportunities that came along to get closer to the material he was learning in CIS or his academic classes, Tri-County was an exceptional model for what college would be like. He continues to use the skills he acquired in CIS every single day, particularly now as he spends a significant amount of his time doing backend support for his current employer’s application software. Tyler was grateful he participated in Drama Club. Learning to get comfortable on stage with his peers, despite a natural aversion to public speaking, better prepared him for the expectations both in further schooling and in the professional world to be able to present to audiences. He is also fortunate to have been able to deploy the skills he learned from drama club at a national advising conference. Tyler says he truly uses his CIS experience every single day. Although he wears a lot of hats in his current role, one of the main pieces of his pie is working with an SQL database called Slate. He is grateful to have a basis in software like Slate from his time in CIS as it has been a direct factor in my recent promotion to Assistant Director. Beyond that, a principle he learned in CIS is integration. Something that was ingrained in himself and his peers was that it was important for a CIS professional to have a holistic understanding of computers and networks. Even if you preferred web design or programming, it was important to know and care about hardware and networking, as ultimately, for end users, their experience comes from the integration of all elements at play. He’s taken this idea to heart and carried it with him from opportunity to opportunity. One of the first things he does, whenever he starts something new, tech related or not, is to try to learn how each element of his environment contributes to the task at-hand, even if his task is just a small piece. He really thinks it helps to set his work apart. Tyler’s advice to current students: “Take advantage of opportunities outside of your education! Whether it’s doing that extra project in shop or participating in clubs or athletics, go beyond what TC requires of you. Although I think my Tri-County education was excellent, getting involved in clubs, participating in Skills, and picking up extra projects here and there gave me the confidence to really take advantage of everything college had to offer me.”
Yesterday marked the second SkillsUSA SmartStart conference! Our officer team participated in running a booth to educate freshmen state-wide on the multiple competitions that SkillsUSA has to offer for them. Along with the facilitators who joined in on making the conference a positive experience, multiple Tri-County freshmen participated in the event. Our facilitator team (Ava Membreno, Nourhane Elouannasse, Aidan Forrester and Jemma Ruiz) were recognized for their great volunteer efforts, and Nylanie Moore won the "Rising Star" award for freshmen. Congradulations to everyone for a successful conference! You can follow our SkillsUSA team on instagram: @tricounty_skillsusa

Alumni All-Star Drew Lessard! Drew is a graduate of the Computer Information Systems class of 2014! He continued his education at Johnson & Wales University where he earned his Bachelors of Science in Network Engineering. Drew is a Senior IT Systems Administrator at Stambaugh Ness, Inc.
Drew’s favorite memories from high school would have to be his time spent in the SkillsUSA and Robotics clubs. They were both able to provide a different perspective of learning within a competition setting. Additionally, being able to work a co-op job was able to give him a first look into the career field he wanted to pursue.
Drew says his high school experience influenced his career path because Tri-County provided a foundation of the career he holds today.
Drew loved the coding and presentation of the Norfolk Town Website project and all the cisco based learning projects. He is still able to call back on the foundational lessons such as the OSI model or various troubleshooting methods to assist in in day to day responsibilities.
Drew’s advice to current high school students: “Never be afraid to ask too many questions! It’s very valuable to learn from being incorrect or from mistakes. Make sure to be involved whether through sports or just gain a sense of community.”

Alumni All-Star Shannon Zogalis! Shannon is a 2019 graduate from the Health Careers Program! After high school Shannon went to Bryant University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology and is now finishing up her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Shannon is currently the Tri-County Cheerleading Coach!
Her favorite memory from high school was being a part of the cheerleading team. She loved being able to show school spirit and compete in competitions doing the sport that she loved.
Shannon says that being in the health careers shop opened her eyes to the many opportunities for a career in healthcare and motivated her to continue in that field after high school.
Working towards getting her certified nursing assistant license was something that had a big impact on her career choice. Receiving her license and eventually working as a CNA for many years shaped her into the person she is today and encouraged her to move forward in the nursing field.
Shannon says that the skills and knowledge learned through Health Careers led her to success in both of her degrees. She felt prepared and inspired to learn when attending college classes. Continuing onto nursing school after being in Health Careers and working as a CNA, she was able to excel using the lessons learned throughout her time at Tri-County. She still looks up to her Health Careers teachers as role models and for advice!
Advice to current students: “My advice would be to enjoy every second because the years go by fast! Take all the opportunities that Tri-County offers because it will lead to success in the field you choose to go into after graduation.”
This week, as part of the AIM HI series, LPS students learned the life skill and mindfulness practice of sewing buttons. Together as a class service project, they made dozens of tissue packet keychain gifts to donate to the SAFE Coalition for their clients. SAFE is a nonprofit organization dedicated to meeting the needs of the community. They work closely with community members to close gaps in their systems of care. 💚
