🌟Early Education sophomore, Kylie Vierkant, planned an Auto Repair Shop for the preschool dramatic play area.🏍️ "I used two guidelines from Early Education and Care to plan this activity: 1)Use a variety of tools and materials to build grasp-and-release skills, and 2)Observe and discuss the various kinds of work people do outside and inside their homes. Then I contacted Auto Tech to ask if they had any child-friendly, safe equipment we might be able to borrow. They were super helpful and cleaned the materials up for safe handling for the children. They guided us in understanding the materials and tools they provided. The children were very excited, and very surprised to see real world equipment!" #TeamWork #WorkHardTodayCounts

Alumni All-Star John Holmes! John graduated in 1993 from the Electrical Wiring Technology Shop! John says he values the education he received from Tri-County, as it gave him a foundation in his electrical career. He remembers his shop teachers telling him when you get out in the electrical field that's where you will gain most of your knowledge and skills, and they were correct! His Electrical Instructors were Mr. Bentley, Mr. Butler and Mr. Halstead. John says they were down to earth teachers and prepared students for the real world. Some of his fondest memories were working on the shop outside jobs, on the wrestling mat and on the soccer field. He says if he had to do it all again, he would definitely choose a vocational high school. After high school John continued his electrical education at Tri-County in the adult night school program, where he took journeyman electrical classes to prepare him for the electrical license exam. John went on to get his electrical license a few years later, and then received his master’s license! He is still working in the electrical field today as a maintenance electrician at a private school. John’s advice to a vocational student: “Be teachable, a leader and a problem solver.”

Dynamic Duos: Celebrating Siblings in the same vocational shops! Highlighting the unique bond and teamwork of siblings working together in skilled trades, making an impact while building their future side by side. Today, we're shining the spotlight on siblings Jimmy and Frankie, both juniors making waves in our CIS (Computer Information Systems) program! What inspired both of you to pursue CIS, and how has your sibling influenced your journey? We find CIS very interesting! Our father works in the CIS field, we want to follow in his footsteps. We also inspire each other to learn more and become stronger in our field. What’s the most memorable project you’ve worked on together, and why does it stand out? We enjoy working on our current project Wizard Time, it is the first time ever that we have actually created a full-fledged game and we put a lot of hard work and time into it. How does working with your sibling make the job more rewarding (or more fun)? Working together allows us to learn more from each other, grow in our field, and make our work even more enjoyable.

Alumni All Star Angela Anderson! Angela is a 2019 graduate of the Early Education Program! Angela went straight to work from Tri-County and is an ABA tutor at Cottage Street School in Sharon. Her favorite memory from high school was being a part of the senior project fair! She says that working on a product and being able to showcase it to the school and to the others who come in senior project night was such a cool experience, it was amazing to see everyone’s ideas come together and be able to share them with each other, it was a lot of fun! Her high school experience influenced her career choice because she loves working with kids and always has, being in Early Ed helped her find the love she has for working with younger students. After she graduated she worked in public schools finding her footing and got an opportunity to work with children diagnosed with Autism, from there she realized that is what she wanted to do! A specific project that had an impact on her was the senior project! Writing the senior project paper was hard work but doing all the research and finding all the information for it was very beneficial, she not only put in some facts she already knew about her topic but she also found out more and was able to get more information about her product. Taking the time to creating the product that she still uses was amazing and it is something that she will have forever! Angela says she learned at Tri-County from her shop teachers – they always taught students to build a relationship with the preschoolers and to be patient, as someone who works with students everyday it is so important to build good relationships and be someone the kids look up to! Advice to current students: “Take your time and don’t take it for granted! Don’t rush through high school just to finish, once you graduate you will want to go back and might even want to do things differently. Take your time in shop, getting your certifications and learning everything that your teachers can and will teach you!”

🔬 "Uncover the Evidence, Solve the Mystery!" 🧪 Miss Sabasowitz's Microbiology CP attended Bridgewater State University for the class's annual field trip with Mr. Becker as the chaperone. Students participated in the BSU Lab Larceny module. It is a forensic mystery in which high school students are hired as employees of the Forensic Institute of Bridgewater (FIB). The students performed DNA fingerprinting on samples isolated from “blood” found at the site of suspected industrial espionage at FIB headquarters. Techniques are based on restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) and involve agarose gel electrophoresis to resolve the DNA fingerprints. Careful analysis of the data and critical thinking skills are encouraged in solving this "who done it?"
