A big congratulations to Jack Simmons, our Outstanding Vocational Student Award winner! Jack's incredible scholastic and vocational achievements in the Carpentry program have left a lasting impact on our local school district and the vocational-technical education system across the Commonwealth.
Jack, the son of John and Lori Simmons of North Attleboro, is a standout student who has earned high praise from his teachers for being mature, personable, and resilient, with an impressive résumé to match. He represents his peers on the School Committee and holds the position of president of the National Honor Society. Jack has spearheaded fundraisers to support breast cancer awareness, rallied community members to increase attendance at sports events, and fostered initiatives that encourage others to enrich the school environment.
As one of the first juniors to excel in a co-operative education placement, Jack works at Plainville Facilities, setting a benchmark for success in vocational education. He also completed his Eagle Scout project by restoring the memorial at Vincent R. Petti Fields in North Attleboro, combining his passion for baseball with a commitment to community service.
Jack was honored last night at Mechanic's Hall in Worcester during the annual MAVA (Massachusetts Association of Vocational Administrators) awards banquet, where his achievements were celebrated among the state’s finest in vocational education.
While maintaining an impressive GPA of 3.95, Jack runs his own business offering mailbox and post installations, with special discounts for veterans in his community. Dubbed “Jack the Postman” in a recent news feature, he exemplifies dedication and entrepreneurial spirit. Jack plans to further his studies in criminal justice at Westfield State University with the help of a $20,000 merit scholarship, all while serving his country as a member of the Army National Guard.
