MY

It's Faculty Friday! Today we are featuring Mike Young, Social Studies Teacher, Golf Coach and Baseball Coach!

What inspired you to be a teacher?

Both of my parents were educators for over 30 years in the city I grew up in. Seeing the impact they had on the students they taught over the course of their career really inspired me to become a teacher myself. Another large influence growing up was my high school Cross Country/Track & Field coach Brian Hoffman. His constant positivity and his dedication to make his athletes into the best version of themselves really inspired me to pursue the same career path. At the end of the day, I knew I wanted to have a job where I was passionate about what I was doing and to also make a positive difference in the lives of others every single day. This is how I decided on becoming a history teacher and a coach!

What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of teaching?

Outside of teaching, I love to travel to different countries around the world with my wife and see new cultures, try new foods and see how others live. I also love to watch New England sports teams, especially the Boston Celtics!

What’s one piece of advice you would give to your students?

One piece of advice I would give to my students is to never underestimate yourself and what you are capable of. If you want something in life, go for it! You only have one life to live and you should try your best to appreciate the time you have here on earth, both good and bad! Everything you go through makes you who you are today. Be proud of it!
