What inspired you to become a teacher, and how has your journey been so far?
I have always wanted to be a teacher; as a young girl I can remember playing school with my siblings and dolls. Working with children has always been something I have gravitated towards, whether it is teaching swim lessons, working at camps, or watching some of my many younger siblings. I have now been teaching for 13 years and still enjoy this profession. Every day is something new and I continue to grow and learn each year.
Can you share a fun fact about yourself that your students might not know?
I worked for Adam Sandler on a movie set the summer after I graduated from college. He was filming a movie on Cape Cod and I would come to the set daily to teach swim lessons to his daughters and other producers’ children.
What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of teaching?
I love being outside, hiking, swimming, and playing with my kids. I also enjoy traveling and visiting new places, especially if it is somewhere that is connected to the history I teach.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to your students?
Don’t give up! Learn to overcome your failures and to keep working towards your goals.
