What inspired you to become a teacher, and how has your journey been so far?
I was inspired by my father in-law, Bernie Osborne who was a baking teacher in the culinary arts department here at Tri-County. He convinced me to apply for the teaching position in cosmetology. I had never taught a day in my life and it was a very hard transition when I got the job. If it wasn’t for great co-workers and my mentor, I probably would not have stuck it out. I am so glad I did because I love what I do every day. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing former students being so successful in the cosmetology industry.
Can you share a fun fact about yourself that your students might not know?
My students may not know that in the past I was able to drive a dump truck and pick up supplies for my husbands’ business. Didn’t like that so much.
What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of teaching?
I enjoy walking, reading and especially enjoy spending time with family and friends on “Lake Time” in New Hampshire. My new found joy though is being a grandmother.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to your students? One thing I would say to students is... take a chance on something you may not be comfortable with, don’t give up on it and one day you will be grateful for taking that chance.
