Faculty Friday! This afternoon we are featuring Victoria Durfee, our SEL and Business Teacher!
What inspired you to become a teacher, and how has your journey been so far? I’ve always been a people person and wanted a career working with people. While pursuing a degree in business I did substitute teaching on the side and my teacher friends encouraged me to become a business teacher. I accepted a business teaching position at my hometown high school teaching courses that I took there. Interesting how I came full circle!
Can you share a fun fact about yourself that your students might not know?
I hooked and reeled in a “catch and release” Atlantic sailfish off the coast of Isla Mujeres, Mexico; I can stand up to any sea swells and conditions!
What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of teaching?
I enjoy weekends and summers with my family and my dog Ruby on our boat located in New Bedford, Massachusetts and do a great deal of traveling in and outside of the United States. I also enjoy gardening and creating beautiful landscapes.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to your students?
Don’t wait for things to happen in life, you have to go out and make things happen for you!
