John Becker

What inspired you to become a teacher, and how has your journey been so far? I was inspired to become a teacher by my High School Social Studies Teacher Mr. Noel Zinkievich. In his classes I watched how he spoke with us and not at us. He asked questions and listened to our responses and made us all feel that we were engaged in the discussion. He showed me that not only passion for the subject, but genuine interest in all of the students was something that I wanted to emulate. When I graduated from College I was fortunate enough to teach at my old High School in the Social Studies department alongside my mentor, Mr. Zinkievich. During a time when economics became an issue in my town, I had to enter the field of business and sales. I remained there for many years until as circumstances would have it, I came to Tri-County to continue my teaching career, where I left off so many years ago. I am honored to be part of our Tri-County Community because I have the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with students and faculty alike on a daily basis. I am probably the only faculty member who does not wish for a snow day because I enjoy walking in the door every day.

Can you share a fun fact about yourself that your students might not know?

I am an identical Twin and the Oldest of Nine Children

What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of teaching? My Wife Laura and I enjoy going to the Movie Theatre on a regular basis. We enjoy Broadway Plays, going to the Gym to work out, Golf and Pickleball as well as caring for our 10 month old Puppy, Bubba.

What’s one piece of advice you would give to your students?

Please be considerate of others. Always listen to what someone has to say because you can learn something from everyone. Most important of all "Please Say what you mean and do what you say." Your Integrity is most important in your journey through life.
