This week we shine a spotlight on our inspiring Phys Ed and Health teacher, Stephanie Caffrey, a true positive role model in our community!
What inspired you to become a teacher, and how has your journey been so far?
I think I always wanted to be a teacher, but during my senior year of high school I did an internship at my middle school as a physical education teacher and had a lot of fun with it and learned a lot from both teachers (shout out to Mr. Tourangeau and Mrs. Hill!). I avoided applying to colleges and they took time out of their schedules to get me started and help me through that process, I also got involved with coaching basketball that year so that reinforced and caused me to admit out loud I wanted to be a teacher!
Can you share a fun fact about yourself that your students might not know?
I hate all potato based foods. I went to Greece to play basketball when I was in high school (but tore my ACL 2 days before we left), Math was my favorite subject in school when I was a student.
What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of teaching? I like working out- lifting & running, I am SLOWLY getting into golf, I love the beach and being outside in the heat.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to your students?
Food is fuel! Okay but seriously, every relationship you make matters, be kind and respectful, you never know when you might cross paths with people again in life. My former middle school history teacher was the principal who saw my resume on his desk, 8 years later, when I got an interview here at Tri-County!
