Automotive Technology

In this program, students are taught to diagnose, repair, and maintain modern gasoline powered vehicles. Instruction includes extensive repair service that includes mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems. Auto technician trainees gain knowledge and experience by working on actual vehicles. All pupils are taught to use computerized diagnostic equipment and modern repair techniques. Repairs are made on engines, transmissions, ignition, and fuel systems, differentials, front suspensions, brakes, clutches, and accessories for both domestic and foreign vehicles. The automotive technician is in high demand. With the average family owning two vehicles, there is an abundance of work for not only today’s but tomorrow’s technicians.

The Tri-County Automotive Technology department is a proud member of the AYES (Automotive Youth Education Service) program. AYES is a dynamic partnership between General Motors, Chrysler Corporation, Toyota Motors, Volkswagen, and Tri-County. During their junior year, students visit service dealerships and job shadow a technician, parts manager and service manager. In the summer of their junior year, students are offered employment at these dealerships. The dealer selects a mentor from the shop to work with and encourage the intern while he/she learns the automotive trade. The program is (ASE) Automotive Service Excellence certified through the National Automotive Technician Education Foundation (NATEF).
